REPORT | Finals in Bangkok for Malaysian Youth Couple!


Bangkok | On the 18th of May, our KLDSA athletes departed for Bangkok, Thailand to compete in the Professional Division "World Open" and ADSF University Championships 2018. The competition was held at the Indoor Stadium Huamark on the 19th and 20th of May. The team consisted of 8 athletes and their coach, Chua Zjen Fong. The athletes of the team were Danny Tan Yee Chun, Kelly Tan Chee Min, Benny Tan Yee Siang, Zara Eliza binti Ghazie Yeoh, Yap Chin Yee, Yap Chi Yew, Ooi Say Keat and Bernice Iu Weng Tong.

Danny and Kelly took part in the TDSA Adult Open Latin. There were a total of 39 couples competing in the event. Among those 39 couples there were 8 countries which were Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, China, Philippines, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. The couple danced until the quarter finals and were placed 16th. They were quite close to make it to the semi finals despite their first competition in 2018.

As for the next adult couple, Keat and Bernice whom competed in the same event as Danny and Kelly which was the TDSA Adult Open Latin. The couple danced until the quarter finals and placed 22nd in the event. "It's a great start for this new partnership and Keat's first WDSF competition, we are looking forward to see more positive results from this couple in the future" said Mr.Chua Zjen Fong.

Next are the youth couples. Starting with Benny and Zara, the couple competed in the TDSA Youth Open Latin. The event had a total of 29 couples and among the 29 couples, there were 5 countries competing. The countries were Hong Kong, Malaysia, South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand. Benny and Zara finished in the semi finals and were placed 7th. The duo were only 4 marks away from getting into the finals. It was a tough competition and the two have great potential in reaching to the final in the future.

Lastly we have Chin Yee and Chi Yew who competed in the TDSA Youth Open Standard. The event had a total of 14 couples. They competed against Hong Kong, China and Thailand. Chin Yee and Chi Yew made it to the semi finals for the standard event. They also competed in the TDSA Youth Open Latin against 29 couples and made it into the finals. Chin Yee and Chi Yew were placed 4th and it was a great achievement by the both of them.
