News | Team MYDF in SEA Games 2019! 1st Gold Medal from MYDF Bboy - Legosam!

Clark | There Kuala Lumpur DanceSport Association (KLDSA) athletes were nominated by the Malaysia DanceSport Federation to participate in the 2019 SEA Games in Philippines. They were Tan Yee Chun, Tan Chee Min and Sam Jee Lek (Legosam). KLDSA very own deputy president, Mr Chua Zjen Fong were appointed as the Head Coach for the Malaysia DanceSport Contingent.

Two more athletes from the Malaysia DanceSport Federation (MYDF) contingent were Edwin Teo Chee Seng and Kimberly Tan Cheer Ching. MYDF Treasurer - Mr Peter Tan was appointed as the Team Manager.

Tan Yee Chun & Tan Chee Min took part in the Samba, Cha Cha Cha & Paso Doble events in the Latin American category. Edwin Teo and Kimberly Tan took part in the Tango, Viennese Quickstep event in the Standard category. Last but not least, Legosam took part in the BBoy category. Malaysia did not send any Bgirl athlete due to the lack of talent and decreasing number of female athletes in breaking.

Legosam successfully took back a gold medal in the bboy category being the first in SEA Games history. Breaking is being featured in SEA games for the first time under Dancesport. It will also be featured as a medal event in the 2024 Paris Olympic games.

The National Sports Council (MSN) has agreed to reimburse Legosam for his travelling costs as well as qualify him under the MSN SHAKAM scheme where SEA Games medalist will be awarded with monetary reward.
