Report | The 10th Hong Kong Dancesport Festival 2017!


Hong Kong | Team KLDSA has done well once again with many achievements in a single international championship. The team competed in the 10th Hong Kong Dancesport Festival 2017 that was held in the Queen Elizabeth Stadium for 3 consecutive days. There were a total of 26 athletes including coaches Chua Zjen Fong and Evon Chong. The team won a total of 31 Golds, 14 Silvers and 13 Bronzes which was the most Gold medal won by the team in any Hong Kong competitions they had competed by far.

Ng Jia Yi competed in the Adult Solo catergory in which she had taken part in three of the events. Those events are the 3 dance (Cha-cha, Rumba, Jive), 1 dance (Cha-cha) and 1 dance (Rumba). Jia Yi won 2 Golds in both the 1 dance events and a Silver in the 3 dance event.

Tan Yee Siang also joined the same category as Jia Yi which would be the Adult Solo category. Yee Siang joined the 3 dance (Cha-cha, Rumba, Jive) and the 2 dance (Samba, Paso Doble). Yee Siang placed first in both of the events.

Last of the Adult Solo category winners is Emily Cheng Zi Ern. She took part in the 3 dance (Cha-cha, Rumba, Jive), 2 dance (Samba, Paso Doble) and all three of ther 1 dance events which are Cha-cha, Rumba and Jive. Emily Cheng won a Gold from the 1 dance (Jive) event, 2 Silvers from the the 2 dance and 1 dance (Cha-cha) events. and a bronze from the 3 dance event.

Next we have the Junior I Solo category. Phen Jil Thung joined the 1 dance event in Jive (group B), 3 dance event (group A) and the 1 dance events for Cha-cha, Rumba and Jive. Jil won a Gold for the 1 dance Jive (group B), 2 Silvers in the 1 dance events for Cha-cha and Jive, and 2 Bronzes in the 3 dance event (group A) the 1 dance Rumba event.

Chloe Iu Weng Jie also was in the Junior I category and took part in a total of 8 events from this category. Those events are the 3 dance event (group A), the 1 dance events consisting of Cha-cha, Rumba and Jive, another 3 dance event, a 1 dance event for jive (group A), the 2 dance event and a 1 dance event for Cha-cha (group B). Chloe Iu had won Gold in all 8 events.

Emily Ng Li Shyuan competed in the Junior II category and took part in 2 events which were the 3 dance and 2 dance event. Emily Ng placed first in both events.

Emily Ng and Yee Siang who partnered together took part in the Adult category in the All Ladies event. The couple joined the 1 dance event for Cha-cha, the 2 dance event and the 3 dance event. They won Gold for all three events.

Wong Jia Yee and her partner Chong Wei Tian competed in the Junior All Girls category and competed in 2 events which were rhe 3 dance and the 2 dance events. The couple won Gold in both events.

Couple Lee Gao Xiang and his partner Zoe Tan competed in the Junior I category and they joined 5 events which are the 1 dance events for Cha-cha, Rumba, Jive, the 2 dance and 3 dance events. The couple won Gold in all the events.

Dance couple Yap Chin Yee and Yap Chi Yew competed in the Youth category. The couple took part in 3 latin events and a standard event. For their latin events, they joined the 1 dance event for Rumba and Jive and the 2 dance event. The couple won 2 Golds in the 1 dance Jive and the 2 dance events, also a bronze for their 1 dance Rumba event. The standard event that the couple participated in is the 3 dance event (Waltz, Tango, Quickstep). The couple placed 3rd in the event.

As for dance couple Tan Yee Siang and Zara Eliza binti Ghazie Yeoh who competed in the Junior II category, the couple took part in the 3 dance, 2 dance and 5 dance event. Yee Siang and Zara won 3 Silvers from their events. The couple managed to gain such an amazing achievement for their first overseas competition.

Chua Zjen Thak and his partner Che Xin Nee competed in a mixture of latin and standard events. Those of which are 2 latin events, the 25-34 Latin event and the 16+ Hong Kong Open and the 3 standard events, the 2 dance (Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot), the 16+ Waltz,Tango,Quickstep event and lastly the 25-34 Standard event. The couple won a total of 3 Silvers. 2 of which are from the 25-34 Standard event, 2 dance event and 1 from their 25-34 Latin event.

As for couple Lam Hong Woh and Lim Dao Er, who took part in a event under the Adult category won a gold in the 25-34 5 dance event.

Lastly the coaches Chua and Evon took part in 3 events under the Adult Category. The events were the Grand Slam Open, the Asian Championship Latin and the 16+ Hong Kong Open. Chua and Evon placed 2nd in the 16+ Hong Kong Open event earning them a silver.

The team will continue their training for upcoming competitions in the year. Congratulations to all the athletes of KLDSA for obtaining such amazing results. We hope to see more from the team in the near future.
