Report | New National Latin Champion Arises!

Skudai | Recently, the first leg of the National Ranking of 2018 was held at Skudai, Johor on the 16th of June. The national ranking organized by Bailando DanceSport Academy was a success with participation from Melaka, Sabah, Selangor, Johor, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. This year's National Ranking was deemed to be exciting due to the retirement of the 15 times undefeated National Latin Champion - Chua & Evon. The top three places in the Grade A Closed Latin were successfully captured by KLDSA athletes. With Chua Zjen Thak & Che Xin Nee grabbing Bronze, Ooi Say Keat & Bernice Iu Weng Tong with the Silver medal and the New National Latin Champion won by Danny Tan Yee Chun & Kelly Tan Chee Min! The three couples were students and disciples of former Latin Champion Chua & Evon whom have all earn their name and mke their coaches proud.

Ooi Say Keat from Seremban was one of the hot topic that day as he was previously dancing in a different association. Ooi once learnt from Chua in Seremban many years ago and decided to join Chua to pursue further as he had always favored all the WDSF competitions with its transparency and organization.

Chua Zjen Thak & Che Xin Nee managed to get back to the top 3 since their last competition where they were heavily defeated. In the Grade A Closed Standard, they were placed 3rd as well despite given their improvement in skills and their great results in Italy, the local judges still thinks they might not make it yet. Their dancing had shown tremendous improvement after all their hard work they have put in. The KLDSA team have a total 38 athletes that took part in this national ranking. In the youth latin category, Yap Chin Yee & yap Chi Yew had the highest ranking points, followed by Benny Tan & Zara Eliza, Yap Chun Kian & Christine and lastly followed by Fong Jun Wei & Daphnie Wong.
