NEWS | 5th KLDSA Malaysia Open DanceSport Championship 2022

27 October 2022 (Kuala Lumpur) | The SEA Games Selection for Cambodia 2023 was successfully organised by Kuala Lumpur DanceSport Association (KLDSA) and co-organized by MY DanceSport Academy at Wisma OCM on the 8th of October 2022. A total of 396 competitors from 7 countries Australia, China, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia and 7 states Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Sabah, Sarawak, Johor had participated in this international championship. The championship took place with the presence of the VIPs: Mr John Fam (Secretary General of Dancesport Asia and Deputy President of Malaysia Dancesport Federation), Mr Chan Foong Keong (OCM Assistant Secretary General), & Mr Chua Kian Hong (President of Kuala Lumpur DanceSport Association).


The 5th KLDSA Malaysia Open DanceSport Championship 2022 or Dancesport in Malaysia is recognized by the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF), the international federation of DanceSport, DanceSport Asia, (DSA), and affiliated to Malaysia DanceSport Federation (MYDF). In addition, as a highlight of this year, MYDF is now recognized by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) therefore the championship being held in Wisma OCM. Furthermore, MYDF as well as this championship is also recognized by the Kementerian Belia dan Sukan Malaysia (KBS), Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN), and Institut Sukan Negara (ISN).


The goal of KLDSA in affiliation with MYDF to better the Dancesport is now a further leap ahead with the acceptance of Dancesport by OCM. Better education to athletes especially youth through sports practise without discrimination of any kind but with understanding of the importance of good sports culture, fair play and solidarity can now be better exercised and promoted. Following, MYDF is also very looking forward to the hosting of 2027 SEA Games by the country which could provide the unique opportunity for Malaysia to bring athletes across the world together to better sports culture diversification, to boost the local economies, promote the country's tourism, and most importantly to bring pride to the nation.


The 5th KLDSA Malaysia Open DanceSport Championship 2022 is associated with the SEA Games Selection for the upcoming Cambodia SEA Games 2023. Additionally, this was also the selection for the next Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games, World Championships, and Asian Championships. The following national ranking will be held in Johor on 18th February 2023. In order to qualify for the next sea games, the athletes have to accumulate points in every national ranking and rank Top 1 & 2 in overall.


Lastly, KLDSA congratulates the winners of the Grade A Closed events, Ooi Say Keat & Che Xin Nee (Latin) & Edwin Teo Chee Seng & Kimberly Tan Cheer Ching (Standard), and also the participants of this championship.
