News | OCM Officially Terminated MDSB


30 March 2022 (Kuala Lumpur) - In accordance with its constitutional rules, the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) confirmed that its affiliate, Malaysian Dance Sport Berhad (MDSB), has had its membership officially terminated on 26th March 2022. Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM, stated that it was due to the loss of recognition from the world governing body, World DanceSport Federation (WDSF).


Affiliates will lose their membership status if they do not join the respective world governing body, according to article 24.2 of the OCM constitution.


He addressed a press conference after the OCM Executive Council Meeting at Wisma OCM, “This decision was taken after consultations with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), WDSF and the Office of the Malaysian Sports Commissioner.”


The current body that is recognised by the World Dancesport Federation (WDSF) and Dancesport Asia (DSA) is Malaysia Dancesport Federation (MYDF).


Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria has mentioned that the DanceSport athletes who are representing the country at the Vietnam SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam will not be affected. He added, "Malaysia would be sending an 884-strong contingent to the Hanoi SEA Games, including 604 athletes and 280 officials."
